Kilim rugs are more expensive compared to traditional rugs as they are handmade and no rugs have the same design. In fact, when you buy a Kilim, you are purchasing a piece of unique art. Kilim rugs are more durable than traditional rugs as they are made using natural fibers and dyes.

What is the kilim technique?

Kilim weaving is a pile-free weaving method made based on two thread systems, without reverse and flat. Instead, weavers generally make rugs on looms called Istar. These looms are placed vertically and twisted on the hoop formed by vertical and horizontal yarn wefts called “arş” and “argac".

How can you tell if a rug is kilim?

Kilim rugs are recognised by their simple and bold geometric designs. They are sometimes referred to as 'slit-woven' textiles. This is down to the design feature you'll see if you look close - small vertical slits along the edges of the patterns, between the different areas of colour/ where the different colours meet.

How to keep your Kilim in place?

To keep a kilim in place, we recommend placing a rug underlay or pad beneath it. Because kilim rugs are flatwoven, they're incredibly lightweight compared to piled rugs. This feature makes them more portable—they can be easily rolled up and moved.

Can you vacuum a kilim rug?

Three main points to note when vacuuming a kilim or handknotted pile rug are: don't use high suction settings, vacuum on both sides, and don't vacuum the fringe since with repeated applications some of the fringe may be torn off.
